Anchor inspection and rope access
Inspection Services

Stay Cable Anchor Zone Inspection

Bridge anchor systems are critical to structural safety and long-term performance, yet deterioration can occur inside the anchorage where it is not visible during routine inspections. DYWIDAG provides specialist inspection services that detect hidden risks early, plan maintenance effectively, and extend the service life of bridge infrastructure. With decades of anchoring system expertise, our team delivers reliable inspections for both DYWIDAG and third-party anchor systems.

Need an anchor system inspection?
Our specialists assess anchor condition and identify risks early

Anchor inspections made easy with DYWIDAG

DYWIDAG offers comprehensive inspection services for anchor systems to help bridge owners identify and resolve hidden risks before they become serious structural problems.

Using ultrasonic testing, we detect:

  • Broken or partially fractured wires and strands

  • Areas affected by advanced corrosion

Where accessible, wedges at the anchor plate surface are inspected using endoscopic tools. Visual inspections can be performed by uncovering the anchor head to assess the condition of strands and wedges directly. When inspection openings are available, internal endoscopic evaluations provide additional insight into anchor condition.

Our deep system knowledge allows us to provide reliable, independent technical assessments that support long-term structural safety and performance.

Common anchor system risks

Anchor systems may experience deterioration over time, most commonly related to moisture ingress, sealing failures, and corrosion. These issues often develop internally and may not be visible during routine inspections.

Moisture entering the anchor zone due to degraded sealing or ineffective drainage can lead to standing water and long-term corrosion. Corroded wedges may reduce anchoring force by allowing wires or strands to slip, and in more advanced cases, wire fractures can occur near the anchor zone.

The lower anchorage is particularly vulnerable because condensation forming inside the cable system naturally flows downward and can accumulate there when drainage or sealing is inadequate. In some cases, degraded corrosion protection materials such as grease or wax can mix with dust, moisture, and corrosion particles, forming contamination within the anchor cavity. This can indicate sealing or drainage issues and may affect mechanical reliability.

Early detection of these conditions allows maintenance to be planned before structural performance is affected

Why choose DYWIDAG for anchor inspections?

Built for lifecycle performance

Our inspections support long-term maintenance planning and help asset owners protect infrastructure value

Inspection support for long-term asset management

Environmental exposure, mechanical stress, and aging materials can gradually affect anchor performance. Regular inspection provides asset owners with the information needed to manage risk, prioritize maintenance, and ensure continued structural reliability.

DYWIDAG inspection services support long-term infrastructure performance by identifying deterioration early and enabling informed maintenance planning.

Periodic inspection vs monitoring

Anchor inspections provide a snapshot of system condition at a specific point in time. They are typically used to assess condition during maintenance planning, after unusual events, or as part of periodic asset management programs.

In some cases, asset owners may require continuous insight into structural behaviour rather than periodic assessments. Long-term monitoring systems provide ongoing data on anchor performance, allowing changes to be detected early and maintenance decisions to be based on real performance trends.

DYWIDAG supports both inspection-based assessment and long-term monitoring solutions, helping asset owners choose the right approach for their structure and risk profile.
