Our engineers use ground anchors and soil nails to ensure the entire soil wedge, including the slip circle, is secured, stabilized, and consolidated. Ground anchors and soil nails protect the soil wedge from tilting, sliding, gliding, shear failure—and loss of position.
We also use soil nails or rock bolts to secure shotcrete construction or prefabricated concrete segment walls in the soil at the face—and to fix rockfall protection mesh in place.
The use of passive systems is appropriate in stabilization projects—and when the soil nails are only loaded when movements start in the slope or at the face.
At full load, the pressure applied by the earth is absorbed and transferred by the soil nails. In projects where deformations are important, engineers will apply an active system, like ground anchors, in place of soil nails.
