In the past, most stay cables have been designed and installed without fire protection and without cable hardening against various attacks on the cables.
AASHTO requires studies for the security of bridges and one common measurement for protection of the cable is the application of a cable hardening.
DYWIDAG can retrofit such cables with fire protection and with a two-parted cable hardening system in order to minimize potential damage on the cables and to avoid unrepairable damages or even the collapse of the bridge during harzardous events.
